Handmade bow tie...the lazy girl way

Give me a good Southern boy in a bow tie and khaki's any day of the week, bow ties are so classic and oh so Southern!

The perfect guy accessory for Derby Day or a summer wedding, they can add a touch of color and style without being girly...even in pastels....and of course we always love them monogrammed!

There are many great bow tie tutorials out there that involve patterns and hardware and cutting on the bias and all kinds of technical sewing stuff that I am perfectly capable of... and I am sure you are too....BUT, I am lazy.  I made the bow tie above in about an hour and 15 minutes which included the time it took me to drive to the store and purchase the fabric, ponder how I was going to get back to my car in the pouring rain with no umbrella, drive home soaking wet, dry off and sew the bow tie!  Really, minimal effort and I think it looks darn good!

Here's what you need:
1. a bow tie adjusted to the correct size
2. some light weight fabric such as gingham, or a light weight microcheck like the one I used.
3. Scissors
4. Sewing machine
5. Iron

Tutorial:
1. Fold your fabric in half lengthwise, long enough to accommodate your adjusted bow tie. Pin and cut around the outside about 1/4 of an inch out.
2. Place right sides together and pin.  Begin sewing in the CENTER of the tie (the part that will be behind your neck).  Leave  an opening so that you can turn right side out.
3.  Turn right side out.  I use a chopstick to poke the corners out.  Now you can either hand sew of machine stitch your opening closed. (Lazy girl just left hers open...it's inder the collar, who is going to see it?)
4.  Press nicely, monogram if desired (we ALWAYS desire!) and presto, a bow tie!

Now, of course, you have to tie it....enter Pinterest with some help!
